| QUESTION: | Is it necessary to provide an accessible route of travel to a permanent raised platform that is part of a new addition to an existing Group A occupancy? |
| ANSWER: | Yes. New additions being made to an existing
building must conform to the requirements found under Chapter 11, Part
II New Construction. Section 1103.1.2.1, Group A Occupancies, does not
provide a specific exception for raised floor areas, and therefore an accessible
route must be provided to the platform.
