| QUESTION: | In a Type B bathroom, the clear floor space for the bathtub is allowed to be reduced to 30 inches by 48 inches. Should this clear space be oriented so that the long dimension is parallel to the tub length, or can the long dimension be perpendicular to the tub? |
| ANSWER:
|
It is the intent of the Type B dwelling unit to meet the requirements
for the HUD Federal Fair Housing Act accessibility guidelines for dwelling
units.
This exception amends Section 1106.11.9.1. It is the intent for the clear floor space required for the tub to be oriented in such a manner that the long dimension is parallel to the tub length. Please note that in the Type B bathroom, the 30 inch by 48 inch maneuvering space may be located in any position in the bathroom so long as it is clear of the door swing. Also note that all clear floor spaces for fixtures may overlap each other as well as overlap the maneuvering space. |
