| QUESTION: | Do the requirements for door clearances as defined in this section apply to all approaches including parallel, or are they applicable only to a forward approach? |
| ANSWER: | No. For the purposes of Chapter 31, square footage should be calculated by evaluating the area within the surrounding exterior walls of a building or portion thereof, exclusive of vent shafts and courts. As stated in the definition of Floor Area in Section 407 of the Uniform Building Code. The intent of using this definition of floor area is to be consistent with the ADA. |
