Appendix F |

QUESTION: |
1. Where does the radon vent, to be located in a new constructed building per code in Appendix F? Must it be located within the conditioned envelope? 2. When there is living space above a garage is radon mitigation required? If so do the requirements of AF103.6 apply for the garage slab? 3. Do new additions to existing buildings require radon mitigation? |
|
ANSWER: |
1. Yes. The code requires the pipe to be “within the building.” The radon pipe needs to be located within the thermal envelope of the dwelling or it will not function properly. 2. Yes. Living space above a garage would not be treated any differently than living space above a crawlspace or basement, and the slab beneath the garage would need to conform to the same requirements. 3. Yes. If a new slab is poured, or a new
crawlspace constructed, it would need to comply with Appendix F. |
